NTAAC Coffee Break At TAM Conference

North Texas Art Conservation

The  Texas Association of Museum conference is just around the corner - April 8th - 10th. NTAAC is always honored when we can play a part of this wonderful conference. This year we are sponsoring the Thursday Coffee Break 9:45 - 10:15 AM.

So if you are going to the conference make sure you join us for a jolt of caffeine, a shot of sugar and of course lots of talk about broken stuff.

This is a great opportunity to meet fellow art conservators as well as curators, collections managers, and art handlers from across the state. We'll be handing out NTAAC buttons and updating the NTAAC contact information sheet. So drop by with a hand full of business cards and mingle.

Public Art Tour At North Park Mall

Join NTAAC on Wednesday, March 4th for an insightful tour of the artwork at North Park Center. Billy Hines, General Manager will conduct the tour and talk about the art collection and the issues associated with public installations.

Public art is a very hot topic in Dallas right now, so this is a great opportunity to talk about art in public spaces and what impact the public has on the art.

North Park Center art collection features major works by renowned artists including Andy Warhol, Frank Stella, Joel Shapiro, Jim Dine, Jonathan Borofsky, and James Rosenquist among others. This collection encompasses a wide spectrum of materials such as cast bronze, welded steel, carved stone, mixed media and works on paper just to name a few. The artworks are located indoors and outdoors, tucked into nooks and displayed in high traffic areas. And are seen by thousands of people every week.

The tour will start at 11:00am and will be followed by lunch at Luna De Noche. You are more than welcome to join us for one or both parts for this tour.

Space is limited to 20 people so RSVP ASAP to NTAAC@yahoo.com. We'll meet under the Mark Di Suvero sculpture, Ad Astra,  also known as the Big Red X.

Mark Your Calendar

Texas Art Conservation meeting
The February NTAAC fish fry lunch had a great turn out. Lots of golden fillets were consumed and stories told.

In March NTAAC will be taking a tour of the public art at North Park Mall lead by Bill Hines. This will be a great opportunity for an in depth look at issues surrounding art in public places. Lunch will follow the tour. So mark you calendar:

March 4th @ 11:00am
North Park Mall
Dallas TX

Also, its time for the annual NTAAC call for volunteer board members. If you would like to help build the art conservation community in North Texas send us an email NTAAC@yahoo.com.

We are looking for all kinds of skills and talents, big and small. From event organization, to data entry, to media outreach, to lots of other things we haven't even thought about yet. Your evolvement in NTAAC will make a difference to the art and historic community.

Cheers,
Brad

From A Box Of Wires

NTAAC
It's always exciting to learn new things. It opens the door to new possibilities and new ways of seeing the world around us.

From our modern vantage point of nano bits, microcircuitry and high speed internet it's hard to believe that a box full of coiled wires, glass tubes and wood dowels could have made such a dramatic impact on humanity. From the very first broadcasts radio altered forever the way we view politics, music, and each other.

This post should be the last test post for the new Mailchimp subscription program (learning new things).  We'll be posting new NTAAC events for 2015 soon so keep an eye out for the NTAAC email newsletter and don't forget to LIKE NTAAC on Facebook and Linkedin.

Cheers,
Brad

New Circuits And Old Tubes

Texas Art Conservation
From the first static AM radio broadcasts to the first man to walk on the moon, vacuum tubes got us a long way...

This is the second test for the new, amazingly hi-tech but still 100% volunteer driven  NTAAC Newsletter. If all systems return GO then we'll be ready for lift off.

Cheers,
Brad

Testing The Old Tubes

Perhaps a little up dating would be helpful.

There are some gadgets and gizmos that should be preserved, then there are those computer programs that simply don't work up to modern standards anymore. Such was the case with the NTAAC newsletter program. So this posting is actually a test to see if the new NTAAC MailChimp newsletter is fully functioning.

Just imagine at one time you had to wait for the tubes to heat up before the music came out.
